We pulled out all the bells and whistles for this kitchen transformation! We moved the sink to be centered under the new window, installed custom kitchen cabinets (including a Lazy Susan pull-out), added floating shelves, installed can and pendant lighting, and so much more! This kitchen looks amazing and the homeowner couldn’t be happier. #byebyeCountertopGrout!

Day to Day Progress Breakdown
(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On the first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertops, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, out dated lighting, and cabinets (boxes and all!). Prior to demo day, our local cabinet maker took measurements to start creating the cabinets to have them ready ahead of time.
Day 2 – The CRATE team began prepping the area for the new plumbing as well as the wiring for the new can lighting. Six 6-inch LED recessed light fixtures which were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over work spaces. We also replaced the box window with new white vinyl window.
Days 3& 4 – Next, we patched the sheetrock at the old light box location as well as the walls that needed to be adjusted.
Day 5 – On this day, the new cabinets were delivered and installed as well as the Plywood subtop.
Day 6 – Now that the cabinets had been installed, our countertop team came in to create the templates so they could start fabricating the quartz countertop off-site.
Days 7- 9 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish for the custom kitchen cabinets. The sheetrock at the countertop was also repaired and made ready for the new tile backsplash. The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Modesto home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy semi-gloss Swiss Coffee paint were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality. The walls and ceiling in the kitchen also received a fresh coat of Kelly-Moore paint. Kelly Moore’s Sequoia Fog paint with a Satin finish was applied to the walls and the ceiling received a fresh coat of Swiss Coffee in a low sheen.
Days 10 & 11 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Blanco Precis Silgranit Undermount Super Single Bowl in Metallic Gray and the Cashmere Carrera quartz countertops. The tile artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Traditions Iced White 3 x 6 gloss tiles for the backsplash. The tile was grouted using Custom 381 Bright White grout.
Day 12 – Both the plumbing and electrical were finished this day, including the addition of two new pendant lights over the peninsula.
Days 13 & 14 – The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the new freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced and the entire project was cleaned of all construction debris.
