Transforming a Dated Kitchen into a Modern Masterpiece

Embarking on a kitchen remodel can be both exciting and daunting. For homeowners on Pelucca Lane in Modesto, California, the journey of transforming their outdated kitchen into a contemporary, functional space was made effortless with the help of kitchen & bath CRATE. This blog post will delve into the various aspects of this remarkable remodel, highlighting the cabinets, countertops, sinks, appliances, fixtures, tile, and paint. We will explore how each element was meticulously selected and installed, resulting in a stunning kitchen that beautifully blends aesthetics and practicality.
Cabinets
The original kitchen cabinets were not only outdated but also lacked functionality. The remodel introduced custom-built cabinets from Falton Cabinetry in Oakdale, CA, which brought a fresh, modern look to the space. These cabinets were crafted from high-quality red oak, ensuring durability and longevity. The sleek, “euro” soft-close Blum hinges provided a seamless and quiet closing experience, while the ball-bearing drawer glides added a touch of luxury and ease of use.
The transformation was remarkable; the new cabinets offered ample storage space and an elegant design. The addition of custom pantry cabinets where the refrigerator was previously located maximized the kitchen’s storage potential and improved its overall layout.

Countertops
The countertops are often the centerpiece of any kitchen, and the choice of material can significantly impact the overall look and feel. For this remodel, the homeowners opted for Calacatta Milan Quartz, a polished, 2 cm thick countertop material known for its striking appearance and durability. The mitered, heavy eased edge provided a sophisticated finish, complementing the modern aesthetic of the kitchen.
In addition to the main countertops, a unique touch was added with the use of Waterbrook Medium Tumbled Mosaic tiles in Fossil Wood for the backsplash. This choice not only added texture and depth but also harmonized beautifully with the quartz countertops, creating a cohesive look throughout the kitchen.
Sinks and Fixtures
The sink and fixtures in a kitchen play a crucial role in both functionality and design. The remodel featured a Blanco Valea 32″ undermount double bowl sink in Truffle, offering ample space for cleaning and food preparation. This was paired with a Kohler Bellera K-560-2BZ faucet in oil-rubbed bronze, adding a touch of classic elegance to the modern setting.
To enhance convenience, a Kohler transitional soap dispenser in the same oil-rubbed bronze finish was installed, along with an InSinkErator 1/2 HP Badger 5 garbage disposal. These fixtures not only improved the kitchen’s functionality but also maintained the cohesive aesthetic desired by the homeowners.

Appliances
While no new appliances were added in this remodel, the existing ones were thoughtfully integrated into the new design. The refrigerator water line was relocated to optimize the kitchen layout, and the cabinetry was designed to accommodate the appliances seamlessly. This careful planning ensured that the kitchen not only looked beautiful but also functioned efficiently.
Fixtures
Lighting and other fixtures are often the unsung heroes of a remodel, significantly impacting the kitchen’s ambiance and usability. For this project, 4000K under-cabinet lighting was installed, providing a bright and inviting atmosphere for cooking and entertaining. The choice of almond outlets and switches subtly blended with the overall design, ensuring a clean and uncluttered look.

Tile
The backsplash tile selection was a pivotal part of this kitchen remodel. The Waterbrook Medium Tumbled Mosaic tiles in Fossil Wood not only added a natural element but also provided a beautiful contrast to the sleek quartz countertops. The tiles were meticulously installed with Schluter Rondec Tuscan Beige termination detail and TEC Power Grout in Light Chocolate, ensuring a flawless finish that would stand the test of time.
Paint
The color palette chosen for this kitchen remodel played a crucial role in transforming the space. The cabinets were painted in Sherwin-Williams SW 9126 Honed Soapstone, a subtle yet sophisticated hue that complemented the natural wood tones and quartz countertops. The walls and ceiling were touched up with customer-supplied paint, ensuring a perfect match with the new elements and maintaining a cohesive look throughout the kitchen.
