What Does a Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel Cost in Modesto and the Central Valley?

Most remodeling companies will not put a number on their website. We will.

Here is why. Every homeowner who calls us asks the same question in the first five minutes: what is this going to cost? If we make you sit through a sales appointment before you get an answer, we have wasted your time and ours. You deserve to know whether we are in your range before you invite anyone into your home.

The numbers below are real. They come from projects we quoted and built in the Central Valley in 2026. Your project will land somewhere in one of these ranges, and after a free in-home consultation we will give you an exact, line-by-line price that does not change.

What a bathroom remodel costs

‍A shower or tub replacement runs $15,000 to $26,000 and takes three to five days. This is one of our most popular projects. We take out the old shower or tub, waterproof correctly, and install new engineered marble or quartz walls, a new shower base, new fixtures, and a new glass door. Most of these are finished in under a week. A typical recent project came in at about $18,000.

A tub and shower conversion runs $25,000 to $40,000 and takes five to eight days. This is the job where you already have a separate tub and shower and both get rebuilt. We remove and reset the existing tub, rebuild the shower with slab walls, and reface the tub surround. New glass is always part of this one, because existing glass cannot be reused once the surfaces change.

A full bathroom remodel runs $35,000 to $55,000 and takes 15 to 20 working days. This is a complete gut: demolition down to the studs, new plumbing, new electrical, new tile, new vanity and countertop, new fixtures, new lighting and ventilation, permits pulled and inspected. Most of the full bathrooms we quote land between $40,000 and $50,000.

A large or complex bathroom runs $55,000 to $80,000. Price moves into this range when the layout changes, when plumbing has to be relocated across the room or through a slab or stem wall, when a wall comes out, or when the finishes are high end. Older homes push here more often than newer ones.

What a kitchen remodel costs

New countertops on their own run $14,000 to $25,000. We fabricate our stone in house in Salida, template your existing cabinets, and install new quartz or engineered stone counters with a new sink. If your cabinets are in good shape, this is the fastest way to change how a kitchen feels.

Countertops with a new backsplash run $15,000 to $30,000. A typical project of this kind lands around $21,000. Backsplash height, configuration, and design are the main thing that moves it inside that range.

Refinishing or refacing your existing cabinets with new countertops runs $35,000 to $75,000 and takes about 18 working days. Your cabinet boxes stay. We refinish or reface the doors and drawer fronts in our paint booth, replace hardware, and install new countertops, backsplash, sink, and fixtures. This is the best value in remodeling if your existing cabinet layout works for you.

A full kitchen remodel with new cabinets in the same layout runs $65,000 to $85,000. New cabinetry, new countertops, new backsplash, new sink and faucet, new flooring, updated electrical and lighting.

A full custom kitchen with a layout change runs $85,000 to $150,000. This is where walls move, a pantry gets added, the range wall gets rebuilt, appliances get relocated, and the cabinetry is built to your space. These are the largest projects we do, and they are the ones where planning matters most.

Price ranges at a glance

Ranges reflect kitchen & bath CRATE projects quoted in Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties in 2026. They include labor, materials, design, permits, and cleanup.

What actually moves the price

Homeowners are usually surprised by which items drive cost. In our experience, these are the five biggest factors:

1. Whether plumbing moves. Leaving the toilet, sink, and shower drains where they are keeps a bathroom at the low end of its range. Moving them means opening the floor, and in a slab home or a home on a stem wall that gets expensive fast.

2. Cabinets. In a kitchen, cabinets are usually the single largest line item. Refinishing your existing boxes instead of replacing them often saves $30,000 or more, and if your layout already works, you lose very little.

3. The age of the home. Homes built before 1980 frequently need new supply lines, new electrical, or subfloor repair once we open the walls. We find this on a lot of Central Valley homes. We inspect for it up front so it is priced, not discovered later.

4. Countertop and tile selection. There is a wide spread between a standard quartz and a high-movement natural stone, and between a basic subway tile and a large-format porcelain. This is the area where you have the most control over your own budget.

5. Layout changes. Moving a wall triggers structural work, often engineering, and always more permitting. It is worth it when the layout is genuinely wrong. It is not worth it just to gain a few inches.

What is included in every price we quote

Every kitchen & bath CRATE price is a single turnkey number. It includes:

  • Design work with a licensed interior designer, at no extra charge
  • All labor and materials
  • Permits and inspections, which we pull and manage
  • Demolition and debris removal
  • Daily cleanup, with the jobsite packed away every night
  • A written line-by-line breakdown so you can see what each item costs
  • A two-year warranty on our workmanship
  • Our $500/day on-time guarantee

We use open-book estimating, which means you see the actual cost of each piece of the project rather than one lump number with our margin hidden inside it.

Our on-time guarantee

We commit to a finish date in writing. If we miss it, we credit you $500 for every day we are late.

We are not aware of another remodeler in the Central Valley who does this. We do it because a late project is the single most common complaint homeowners have about contractors, and because a company that will not stand behind its finish date probably should not be given one.

You do not pay a deposit

We do not ask for money up front. Payments are tied to project milestones, and you never pay for work you have not received. Large up-front deposits are restricted under California law for a reason.

Financing is available, starting around $200 per month.

Common questions about remodeling costs

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Modesto? A full bathroom remodel in Modesto typically costs $35,000 to $55,000 and takes 15 to 20 working days. A simpler shower or tub replacement costs $15,000 to $26,000 and takes three to five days. If you have a separate tub and shower and both are being rebuilt, expect $25,000 to $40,000.

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Modesto? A kitchen remodel in Modesto typically costs $35,000 to $85,000, depending on whether you keep your existing cabinets. Refinishing or refacing cabinets with new countertops runs $35,000 to $75,000. Replacing cabinets entirely runs $65,000 to $85,000. A full custom kitchen with a new layout runs $85,000 to $150,000. If you only want new countertops, that runs $14,000 to $25,000.

Is it cheaper to refinish cabinets or replace them? Refinishing is almost always less expensive, often by $30,000 or more on a typical kitchen. If your cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, refinishing gives you close to the same result for far less money. If the boxes are failing or the layout is wrong, replace them.

How long does a remodel take? A shower replacement takes three to five days. A tub and shower conversion takes five to eight days. A full bathroom takes about 15 to 20 working days. A kitchen takes three to four weeks. A full custom kitchen with layout changes takes six to ten weeks. We give you a written finish date before we start.

Do you charge for an estimate? No. The in-home consultation and the written proposal are free. There is no obligation and no deposit required to receive one.

Do you handle permits? Yes. We pull the permits and manage the inspections. Our rule of thumb: if the work needs an inspection, it needs a permit. Any contractor who offers to skip the permit is offering to hand you the liability.

What areas do you serve? We serve Modesto, Salida, Turlock, Oakdale, Riverbank, Ceres, Manteca, Ripon, Escalon, Tracy, Lodi, Stockton, Elk Grove, and the surrounding Central Valley and Sacramento area.

Why is your price higher than the bid I got from an independent contractor? Usually because the two are not the same thing. Our number includes design, permits, materials, an in-house licensed crew, a two-year warranty, an on-time guarantee, and $2 million in liability insurance. A lower bid often excludes some or all of that, and the difference tends to show up later as change orders. We encourage every homeowner to get other bids. We just ask that you compare what is actually in each one.
