The Homeowner’s bathCRATE Experience

What was your favorite part of the bathCRATE process?

My favorite part of the process was Willy. He’s so easy to talk to/work with. He’s very knowledgeable and honest about the work and the cost.

Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?

The only surprise we found out during the process was that the company doesn’t request ANY money, even a deposit until the job is done.

Day by Day Progress Breakdown

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons.)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the bathroom with building paper, and then went to town removing the countertop, backsplash, vanity doors and drawers, bathtub and tile and the wall between the vanity and the toilet.  Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Day 2 – The new Kohler Villager bathtub and shower valve were installed and the electrical team began the wiring for the new LED recessed lighting.

Day 3 – The bathCRATE team was back on site to patch and repair the sheetrock.

Day 4 – The painters began preparing and priming the vanity cabinets.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the bathroom vanity cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.

Day 5 – The painters were back on site and applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Smoky Day to the thoroughly sanded and primed vanity cabinets.  This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality. All of the walls and ceiling in the bathroom were painted. Kelly-Moore Feather Stone with a satin finish was applied to the walls and the ceiling was painted to match Glidden Marshmallow White.

Days 6 & 7 – The tile artisans were on site to install tile at the shower. Bedrosians Infinity Luna 12″ x 24″ porcelain tiles were installed on the shower walls with an accent strip of Bedrosians Infinity Listello Kona stacked mosaic tiles. The shower was grouted using Laticrete Sterling Silver grout.

Day 8 – The tile artisans were back on site to install the Bedrosians Barrel Vine 6″ x 24″ porcelain floor tiles. The flooring was grouted using Laticrete Mocha grout.

Days 9 & 10 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the Kohler Caxton sink in white, the MSI Colonial White granite countertop with a mitered edge and the Bedrosians Listello Luna stacked mosaic tiles on the backsplash.

Day 11 –  The transformation hit the homestretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers, the Pfister Pasadena widespread faucets and shower fixture in Satin Nickel, the new Kohler Highline toilet, mirrors, light fixtures, and accessories. After the final items were installed the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
