Sure, the late ’90s and early 2000s brought us some cool things: Boys 2 Men, dial-up modems and myspace (what’s that?) among them. But one thing it didn’t bring us was well-designed master bathrooms in most new homes. This bathroom remodels, Turlock is no exception!
Massive soaking tubs are a key design feature of this era, and rarely a week goes by without bathCRATE being asked to remove tubs and make the shower BIGGER!
Such was the case on this 1999 Turlock, CA bathCRATE. Scroll down to see how the bathtub went away, the shower got bigger, and this homeowner finally had the bathroom they’ve always wanted!

The Homeowner’s Experience With This Bathroom Remodel, Turlock
What was your favorite part of the bathCRATE process?
Our favorite part of the bathCRATE process was meeting with the designer, Casey, and with Scott to actually look at all the exciting options for our new bathroom. It was great to have someone there who had a good eye for design, color and textile choices, and of course keep us in budget! We were able to find almost everything we needed in just one short visit to a tile showroom. It was an efficient meeting, which is how I like to get things done. The other favorite part was obviously the final product. Even our kids have claimed the new master bath as their new shower as well!
What was your favorite part about the bathCRATE team?
Our favorite part about the bathCRATE team was how friendly everyone was. I felt comfortable with the team being in my house whether or not I was home. The crew was respectful and cleaned up after themselves every night, which I appreciated. The bathCRATE team was also very good at arriving and leaving at the promised time. The communication from both Scott and Jared was easy, and both were available if I had questions. Your team was accurate with price and time estimates. I recommend the process to anyone wanting a new bathroom, and we really love how all the pieces came together from the floor, to the counters and the shower.

Day by Day Bathroom Remodel Progress
(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-requested add-ons.)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the bathroom with building paper, and then went to town removing the countertops, backsplash, vanity doors and drawers, shower tile, bathtub surround tile, bathtub, and flooring. Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new limestone countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Days 2 & 3 – The bathCRATE team was on site to move the shower plumbing to accommodate the new shower location, sheetrock the window opening and texture the walls where the shower had been.
Day 4 – The painting team arrived to paint the walls and the ceiling. Kelly-Moore Ivory Mist was applied to the walls. Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the bathroom vanity cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Days 5 – The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Cathedral Stone to the thoroughly sanded and primed vanity cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Days 6, 7, & 8 – The tile artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Runway Taupe 12″ x 24″ tiles with a vertical accent of Bedrosians Hemishpere Black Lava Mosaic Pebble tiles on the shower walls and the shower floor. This was grouted using Laticrete Sterling Silver grout.
Day 9 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the Kohler Caxton sinks in white and the beautiful Serpeggiante Avorio limestone countertops with a mitered edge.
Day 10– The tile artisans were back on site to install the Bedrosians Purestone Grigio 12″ x 24″ floor tiles. The flooring was grouted using Laticrete Light Pewter grout.
Day 11 – The transformation hit the homestretch with the installation of the plumbing fixtures, mirrors, light fixtures and accessories. The Pfister Pasadena center set faucets in brushed nickel were installed at the sinks and the shower received a Pfister Hanover shower head and trim. The final day of the project also included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the new Kohler Highline toilet was set, the shower door was installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
