Hey there Scott Monday with Kitchen and Bath Crate. Not too long ago, we showed you the top five kitchen crates of 2021. Well, today I want to share with you the top five bath crates of 2021.

Now, as you can imagine, bath crate projects, there’s a few more nuances to them than kitchens. The reason being is there are so many different configurations for bathrooms, from your small hall bathroom to your huge master bathroom and everything in between—showers, tubs, number of sinks, all sorts of things.

What I’m going to show you today are some of our top five projects from 2021. But more importantly, you’re going to see a really wide range of configurations and project types and age of homes. So let’s jump right in.

Coming in at number five is Bath Crate Sundance Lake Drive in Modesto. Now, this 2003 home has a gargantuan master bathroom. You can see from the images here that the configuration is both a tub and a shower separate from each other. What really stands out about this project would certainly be the vanity color and the linen closet color. It’s a Sherwin-Williams Revel Blue. What I really like about it is it adds some visual interest to a wall that is fairly muted with a lot of cream and white tones.

Along the bathtub wall, you have the tub surround face, you have the splash wall, you have the tub itself. So it’s really nice to introduce a pop of blue, a pop of color to this wall, adding some immense visual interest.

Now, as we pivot around and look at the shower area, you’re going to see a huge walk-in shower. And I just love the way the Crate design team introduced the Bedrosians Classic Glaze 12×24 in Statuaryetto. It also has a matching 2×2 shower floor and a frameless enclosure. Now all of this is brought together by a floor tile that spans throughout the entire space, that ties all of the tones together. So that’s number five, Bath Crate Sundance Lake Drive in Modesto.

Coming at number four, Bath Crate Merchant Court in Tracy, California. Now, we’re actually going to be at this home again coming up here shortly on another Bath Crate project. But I did want to show you the first one we completed back in 2021.

Now, this is another project that leads with the vanity. It’s a really beautiful 84-inch vanity. Design Elements is the name of the company, and the color is Valentine Gray. What I like about this vanity area is we went from that one large mirror with two tracked house vanity lights to two individual vanity mirrors over this new vanity with some really cool vanity lights over the top of each of those mirrors.

And as we take a look at the other room of this hall bathroom, you’re going to see the toilet and shower room. And what we had before was, once again, your standard tract house toilet, your standard tract house tub shower combination unit. What we did is replace that all with the Kohler Archer tub topped with Bedrosian’s Winter 8×24 tile in Blanco. Another thing you’ll notice is the black accent tile in the back of the shower niche. And what that does is it ties in really well with the Fister Tenet shower head and wand in a matte black finish.

Coming in at number three, Bath Crate Asilomar Court in Modesto. Now, this is a master bathroom in a 2002 home, and I actually was personally able to work on this project last year. And I’m really excited to show it to you. The reason being is on this particular project, it’s a very common tub shower situation that we see in a lot of the early 2000s homes.

So what you have is a large soaking tub next to a fairly small shower. What people tell us is these soaking tubs, they really don’t get used much. They end up being just a spot where people throw their laundry or their towels or things like that. So what we do on a lot of these projects is we remove the old soaking tub, and we install a freestanding tub.

You’ll see in this particular situation, we use the Widdim Soho tub, which is a really beautiful fixture, especially when you combine it with a matte black tub fill like you see in these images. Now, this configuration allows us to actually make the shower a little bit bigger, more inviting, more space, and really kind of ties the whole project together.

One thing I want to point out in that shower is the Trojans Absolute Black 2-inch hex floor. I just love the way that dark floor creates a great visual foundation for the shower and also ties in so well with the tile flooring and the rest of the bathroom.

Now, as we pivot around, you’re going to see another really cool new vanity. This particular vanity stands out to me because it actually has barn door functionality on the vanity doors. So a very rare design element. I really love the way this came together. It’s a freestanding vanity, which means it’s not connected to the walls at the sides, and it’s topped with some really cool mirrors and vanity lights as well.

Coming in at number two, Bath Crate Kungstein Way in Elk Grove, California. Now, this 2005 hall bathroom is all about the tile. This is probably some of the most interesting tile selections I’ve ever seen on a Bath Crate project. So let me walk you through some of these details.

First of all, you’ll notice in the shower area, the accent wall. So that’s a Bedrosians Makoto 2 and a half by 10-inch in Arashi Blue. Just a really cool tile that’s set in a very distinct pattern. And what it does is it creates an immediate visual focal point at this large wall at the back of the shower.

Now, the two return walls are a very simple tile. They’re the Bedrosians Winter 8 by 24 in Blanco. A pretty common tile that we use when we want to take the focus off of the flanking walls and put them on the accent wall. Now, of course, there’s a frameless shower enclosure on this particular shower area. And as we back out a little bit, you’re going to see another really cool tile selection. And that’s the bathroom floor tile, Bedrosians Allora 8 and a half by 10 in a hexagon and a Stella pattern. Kind of has this cool star shape to it. Once again, creates some immense visual interest.

As we pivot around at the vanity area in the somewhat small hall bathroom, you’re going to see that we got rid of what they call a banjo top. A banjo top is a top that extends from the actual sink area over the top of the toilet. And really, people don’t really like that anymore. People want the simplicity of just a simple vanity top, which in this case is a quartz top with a Caxton undermount sink and a Delta Intrinsic faucet in Brilliance Stainless for the finish.

Now, coming in at number one, our top Bath Crate of 2021, Bath Crate Olive Avenue in Modesto. This was a 1935 bathroom that we were able to renovate. And the reason this came in the number one spot is because it solves a huge problem in older homes. I’m talking homes from the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, and even ’70s. It’s what we call the shower cave.

It’s a situation where you have this shower that’s completely enclosed other than this little tiny 28-inch door. And I tell you what, when you get inside one of those showers, you think you’re about to be shot into space and you’re in a pod of some type. So what we do in this situation is we completely blow out that shower cave. And what we come in with is either like a little pony wall like you see in this situation or of course, no wall at all.

But I really do like the pony wall. It’s necessary on this project because you can see that pony wall, that half wall, if you will, it actually contains the plumbing fixtures for the adjacent tub. So back to the shower, a really cool shower niche, great shower fixtures, a frameless enclosure, and it really solves once again that shower cave issue.

Now as we pivot around to the tub itself, a couple of cool features here. Of course, number one, a brand new Kohler Archer acrylic tub. A really nice fixture in and of itself. And on the end wall, you’ll see a really cool tub niche with a decorative tile in the back. So once again, just one of those small little changes to the space that make it not only more beautiful but also much more usable and functional.

Now as we pivot around to the vanity area, I get to show you the 48-inch Aria vanity in powder blue. This is just a beautiful vanity. It has inset doors and drawers, and the color just plays so well with the other selections in this bathroom. As far as the vanity top goes, that’s a quartz top with an undermount sink, and the faucet is the Moen Dartmoor in brushed nickel.

So there you go, those are our top five Bath Crates of 2021. Thank you so much for letting me share those with you.
