An Amazing Kitchen Remodel Experience in Turlock, CA
This 1981 kitchenCRATE (plus!) project on Sebastian Drive is complete and ready to host an amazing Christmas celebration!
Like many kitchenCRATE customers, this young family decided to add quite a bit to their project. Along with the kitchen, our crews transformed the wet bar off of the living room, the laundry room next to the kitchen and the half-bathroom next to the laundry room. It made sense, after all, to get these rooms renovated while our crews were already on site.
Our favorite part of this transformation? The removal of three sections of upper cabinets. This really opened up the sight-lines between the kitchen and the dining/living areas. It’s amazing how much impact such a small, simple change can have on the flow of a home.

“Hi there, I’m Scott Monday, co-founder and CEO of Kitchen Crate. I have with me today some past customers from December of 2013. This is Ted and Michelle Reimers, and they hail from the metropolis of Turlock, California. So what we’re going to do today is I’m just going to ask them a couple of questions about their experience with Kitchen Crate, and hopefully, you’ll answer them. Sounds good? Sure, sounds good. Okay, so here we go.
So why don’t you tell us a few things about your kitchen before Kitchen Crate that left a little to be desired? I can go first. It was a 1980s-style kitchen. It was Michelle probably wasn’t even born when it was built. So you walk into the kitchen, and you stand up, and everything was about chest high. It felt like you couldn’t see out into the living room; it blocked the cabinets blocked the view. And that’s what I really wanted to change about the kitchen. Absolutely. Now, what do you remember, Michelle? What was the thing that when you saw that kitchen for the first time, you said, ‘This has got to change?’ Oh, that’s hard to single out just one thing because it was absolutely horrible. Yes, definitely dated and almost embarrassing, you know, to have people over to our new home that we were so excited to buy. That was the most painful part. Okay, absolutely.
So why don’t you describe a little bit about the Kitchen Crate process, like perhaps, you know, what were some elements of it that you thought worked pretty well for what you needed? For me, it was just how quick the turnaround was. Everything was efficient, everything was detailed in terms of the timeline, very clean process. Before I even knew it, the project was complete, and that was the most beneficial, I think. Well, what sold me on Kitchen Crate was a couple of things. One was your detailed budget; you had everything line-itemed. Me being a banker, I enjoyed that, looking at each thing and what each thing cost. I also had a good timeline set up, and at the end of the process, you followed through that timeline. So that’s what sold me. Great. Well, thank you. Excellent.
So here’s the ultimate litmus test: what have people said about the kitchen, maybe if they saw it before and then saw it after, but what was their reaction? I think people were really impressed at how open it made our living room and kitchen flow with each other. It just gives it a warm feeling and really updated it. So, Michelle, why don’t you tell us a little bit about the process and maybe something you liked about the Kitchen Crate system? Well, the process was extremely clean and efficient. What I liked most about the Kitchen Crate process was just how excellent their customer service was. I never had to worry about any issue, and they were always there to answer my phone calls or provide me with simple updates. Great. We finished it in December, so we rolled right into the holidays. So did you get a chance to enjoy it a little bit over the Christmas season? We were the ones to host Christmas, so yes, it was fabulous. Good, quite a little present for you. Good.
Okay, so what would you say, kind of final question here, what would you say to someone out there that’s watching this right now that might be sort of on the fence about whether or not to give us a call and explore this further? Mine’s simple: just do it. If it makes financial sense for you, and you can afford it, absolutely do it. Don’t even think twice about it. Excellent. I’d say results are in the pudding, I guess you could say. Take a look at our kitchen before and after and give you a shot, let you provide them a budget and a timeline and see what they say. Great. Well, thanks so much for taking a couple of minutes with me. I really appreciate your time, and we’ll link down below on this video with the before and after blog post so you can go check that out.
