Much like last week’s featured project, kitchenCRATE Creekside Lane in Modesto uses granite countertops that quite simply steal the show! The Bedrosians Delicatus granite is one of our favorites, with grays and taupes over a light, almost-white cream base. The veining and fissures of this natural stone harmonize perfectly with the brick-set grey glass backsplash and soft white cabinets. (Speaking of stone countertops: want to know the difference between granite and quartz? Click here for a recent blog on just that topic!)
Throw in new stainless steel appliances, cabinet hardware, and new wood flooring and this kitchen, last remodeled in the 1990s, is ready for a rip-roaring holiday season full of entertaining!

Custom Kitchen Remodel Timeline
Note: We added an extra day to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors, and drawers. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new granite countertops. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new LED undercabinet lighting and a new set of custom-made cabinets was installed in the dining area.
Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 & 5 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Modesto home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Swiss Coffee were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets in the kitchen and Palm Lane was applied to the new dining room cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality. Kelly-Moore Wise Owl was applied to the kitchen walls and Swiss Coffee was applied to the ceiling.
Day 6 – The kitchenCRATE team was on site again to install the beautiful Blanco Precis Silgranit super single bowl sink in Truffle. Once the sink was installed, the countertop installation team arrived to install the Bedrosians Delicatus granite countertops with a mitered edge.
Day 7 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Manhattan Silk Gloss 2″ x 8″ glass tiles mixed with Bedrosians Manhattan Silk Matte tiles on the backsplash. This was grouted using Laticrete Sterling Silver grout.
Days 8-10 – The flooring team arrived to install the beautiful new wood flooring.
Day 11 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted new shaker cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the new pendant lights were installed, the faucet and Kohler Transitional soap dispenser were installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
