The Homeowner’s Kitchen Renovation Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
My favorite process was being kept in the loop about additional cost and options that kept me from going over budget and to be able to help design our new kitchen island.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
My favorite part of the kitchenCRATE team would be the professionalism and how they went above and beyond to satisfy our wants and our picture of what the remodel should be.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
I was really surprised by the way everyone worked together from the painters to tile work down to installing the appliances. Also at the end of every day the work area was cleaned and always finished on the time they said they would be done for the day. I would like to mention how easy it was working with your staff and how they made us feel part of the process.
Thanks again we really love our new kitchen and please thank Jared for working around the floor installation at our house and coming back and hooking up dishwasher that was greatly appreciated by this happy customer.

Day by Day Progress
(Note: We added an extra day to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, the island and cabinet doors and drawers. We also reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz counters. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 – The sheetrock was repaired and made ready for the new tile backsplash and the new custom made island was installed.
Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Modesto home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Paw Print were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets and Balsamic Reduction was applied to the island cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 5 – The painters were back on site to paint the walls in the kitchen. Kelly-Moore Mischief Mouse in a Satin finish was applied to the kitchen walls.
Day 6 – The kitchenCRATE team was on site to install the beautiful Blanco Precis single bowl sink in Truffle. Once the sink was installed, the countertop installation team arrived to install the Silestone Consentino Coral Clay quartz countertops with a mitered edge.
Day 7 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Manhattan Cashmere 4″ x 16″ glass tiles on the backsplash. This was grouted using Laticrete Almond grout.
Day 8 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Bellera faucet with a vibrant stainless finish was installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
