The Homeowner’s kitchenCRATE Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
There were many things that I liked about the kitchenCRATE process, but my favorite was the fact that I basically got a new beautiful kitchen in a short amount of time with help through all design choices. We were on a time schedule and kitchenCRATE stayed true to their promise of finishing as scheduled.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
The team was great from the first phone call to the last email. I especially enjoyed my time with Willy. His patience and great sense of humor was appreciated during the exciting, but tedious process of choosing the perfect granite. On-site the team worked hard and looked professional all wearing the kitchenCRATE logo.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
There were no surprises during this process. The kitchenCRATE team is very organized and prior to starting the job, Jared’s attention to detail and addressing all potential issues was key to my kitchen turning out so awesome!

Day by Day Kitchen Remodel Progress
(Note: We added an extra day to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, and cabinet doors and drawers. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new granite countertops and cantilever bar top. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 – The cabinet modifications began. The cabinets at the double ovens were modified to accept the new microwave and single oven, a new custom built cabinet was install above the refrigerator and the refrigerator was enclosed on two sides. This modification of the refrigerator cabinets made the hard to reach cabinets over the refrigerator much more accessible. The electrical team began the wiring for the new LED undercabinet lighting and pendant lights.
Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Merced home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Swiss Coffee were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets in the kitchen. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 5 – The painting team was back on site. This time they applied Kelly-Moore Swiss Coffee to the ceiling and Kelly-Moore Inviting Veranda with a satin finish to the walls.
Day 6 – The kitchenCRATE team was on site again to install the beautiful Blanco Precis super single bowl sink in white. Once the sink was installed, the countertop installation team arrived to install the Arizona Tile Colonial White granite countertops with a mitered edge.
Day 7 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Grace Sabbia 4″ x 12″ glossy ceramic tiles on the backsplash. This was grouted using Laticrete Sterling Silver grout.
Day 8 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s new appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the new pendant lights were installed, the Kohler Bellera faucet with a polished chrome finish was installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
