Let’s say you’re relocating from the State of the Great Lakes to Turlock, CA. Let’s say your new-to-you 2001 home (featuring a HUGE kitchen) needs updating. Let’s say that you only have a total of 6 hours to spend meeting about the renovation as you juggle your cross country move to-do list.
What do you do?
You call kitchenCRATE, of course…
Check out this recent completion, our first for a customer not even living in the same state at the time of the remodel. That’s a lot of trust to have in your contractor. We think we rose to the occasion.
But don’t just take our word on how well this job turned out. Look below for the customer testimonial, project specifications and extensive before and after pictures!
The Homeowner’s KitchenCRATE Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
Our favorite part of the process was planning and choosing the material to be used in the project.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
Having a go-to person. Jared was in contact with us on an ongoing basis. We were kept updated and questions were answered immediately. He responded to questions immediately without delay and apologized if he was a few hours delayed in responding! Our project was on time. We love our kitchen! We had done a kitchen a few years back in a 985 sq.ft condo by Home Depot at over $30,000 with frustrated phone calls, where the lead [manager] was off and no one could answer questions. We could not make any changes once that projected had started. This project was completed after the initial planning with our son checking in and we were in Minnesota packing to move! Having a designer at the planning meeting was a nice touch. Walking into our kitchen was like a dream; it exceeded our expectations! We made changes as the project progressed and got the kitchen we wanted.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
The way the kitchenCRATE team was invested in our project. Each and every member of the team that was at the house was professional and the confidence they projected to us was that they were “going to do what it takes to please us”. They addressed every single concern we had even after the project was completed. They came back and fixed the electrical on the oven to meet code and the ceiling. The communication between your team members and my family is highly appreciated. I will not hesitate to use your company again if I need to or recommend it to others.

Day by Day Progress
(Note: We added an extra day to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, out-dated light boxes, and cabinet doors and drawers. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz countertops. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 – The cabinet modifications began. The lower cabinets were modified for the new wine refrigerator, the cabinets at the oven were modified to accept the new double ovens and the upper cabinet doors were transformed into glass doors.
Day 3 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new LED recessed lighting. Seven 6-inch LED can lights were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over workspaces. These lights are installed to maximize light levels for the most common countertop uses. Next, we used metal-stud framing to sheetrock the old light box and then hung and taped the sheetrock.
Days 4 & 5 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Days 5 & 6 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Turlock home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Bone were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets in the kitchen. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality. Kelly-Moore Dunes Manor was applied to the kitchen walls.
Day 7 – The kitchenCRATE team was on site again to install the beautiful Blanco Precis super single bowl sink in Truffle. Once the sink was installed, the countertop installation team arrived to install the MSI Chakra Beige quartz countertops with a bullnose edge.
Day 8 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Daltile Almond 3″ x 6″ matte tiles on the backsplash. This was grouted using Laticrete Almond grout.
Day 9 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s new appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the new pendant lights were installed, the Kohler Simplice faucet with a vibrant stainless finish was installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
