Working on pre-1970 homes is always a challenge; you’re never quite sure what you’ll find. The CRATE team rose to the occasion on this job and produced amazing results, on time. Our favorite design elements? The Giallo Cream granite and the Blanco sink steal the show!
But don’t just take our word on how well this job turned out. Look below for the customer testimonial, project specifications and extensive before and after pictures!
The Homeowner’s KitchenCRATE Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
My favorite part of the kitchen project was the excellent communication from the key players on the team. I received calls, voicemails and emails almost daily.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
My favorite aspect of the team was ALL of them. Willy was friendly and thorough. Lindsay, the decorator was helpful. Jared and Aaron were fantastic, adaptable and professional.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
The big surprise was the tool that went through the 7-foot window panel. I walked through the hole and laughed at the extra breeze in the kitchen!! They had it completely replaced by the end of the day!! [Note from the Editor: We believe in full testimonial disclosure, even when we make a mistake!]

Day by Day Progress
(Note: We added an extra day to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons)
Here’s how we did it:
Days 1 & 2 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, and cabinet doors and drawers. The bar top was raised to countertop height to increase the countertop workspace. We also reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new granite counter and bar tops. Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Modesto home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Texan Angel were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets in the kitchen. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 5 – The kitchenCRATE team was on site again to install the beautiful Blanco Precis single bowl sink in Truffle. Once the sink was installed, the countertop installation team arrived to install the Arizona Tile Giallo Cream granite countertops with a mitered edge.
Day 6 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Mediterranean Beige 3″ x 6″ tumbled travertine tiles on the backsplash. This was grouted using Laticrete Marble Beige grout.
Day 7 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Simplice faucet with a vibrant stainless finish was installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
