This kitchenCRATE got a brand new look simply by refinishing the cabinets in Kelly-Moore Swiss Coffee. By painting the wood cabinets a near-white and freshly painted walls in Kelly-Moore City-Loft, it opens the kitchen up and provides a modern kitchen feel. To further enhance the character and practicality of the kitchen we added new hardware and glass cabinet doors. This kitchen remodel is a timeless transformation that will last for years to come!
But don’t just take our word on how well this job turned out. Continue below for the before and after of the cabinet refinishing and the project specifications!

Day by Day Progress
Day 1 – The CRATE team set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust and paint overspray and protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen. The appliances were removed along with everything attached to the cabinet boxes such as the cabinet doors, drawers, hinges, pulls, magnetic strikes, felt or rubber bumper pads, etc. The doors and drawers were taken to an off-site painting booth.
Day 2 – The team began modifying a few of the upper cabinet doors to accept the new glass fronts.
Day 3– Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets. Prepping includes caulking, setting protruding or flush nails, filling nail holes, sanding wood surfaces, and cleaning thoroughly to remove dust or oils. Once the cabinets were prepped, the priming process began. Using a high-grade primer, every inch of the cabinets were primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 – Now that the cabinets were clean, sanded, and beautifully-primed, the painters began the cabinet painting process. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Swiss Coffee were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed kitchen cabinets. This same priming and cabinet painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 5 – The painting team was back onsite to paint the walls. Kelly-Moore City Loft semi-gloss paint was applied to the kitchen walls.
Day 5 – The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The Liberty Bar pulls and Cosmas cup pulls were installed on the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers, the homeowner’s appliances were installed and the entire project was cleaned.
