This week’s completed project is this stunning bathCRATE in Salida, CA. There are so many features to love about this bath remodel, but our favorite feature is the new walk-in shower!

 Bathroom Day by Day Progress

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons.)

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the bathroom with building paper, and then went to town removing the countertops, backsplash, shower tile, tub and tub surround.  Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Days 2 & 3 –  The bathCRATE team was on site to move the shower plumbing to accommodate the new shower location and install the new shower valve. The new pony wall at the shower was framed and the electrical team also began the wiring for the new lighting.

Day 4 – The bathCRATE team was back on site to sheetrock the pony wall and repair the sheetrock at the previous tub location.

Days 5  & 6 – All of the walls and ceiling in the bathroom were painted. Kelly-Moore Baby Barn Owl with a satin finish was applied to the walls and Kelly-Moore Picket Fence was applied to the ceiling.

Day 7 – The countertop installation team arrived to install beautiful new sinks and the MSI Cashmere Carrara quartz countertop with a mitered edge at the vanity.

Days 7 & 8 – The tile artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Metro Plus Manhattan Mist 12″ x 24″ floor tiles. The flooring was grouted using Laticrete Natural Gray grout.

Days 8, 9 & 10 –  The tile artisans were back on site to install tile at the shower. Bedrosians Toscano Classico 12″ x 24″ porcelain tiles with an accent of Bedrosians Elume Heather Grey mosaic tiles were installed at the shower walls and Bedrosians Metro Plus Manhattan Mist 2″ x 2″ mosaic tiles were installed on the shower floor. The shower tile was grouted using Laticrete Light Pewter grout.

Day 11 – The painters began preparing and priming the vanity cabinets.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the bathroom vanity cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish. The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Swiss Coffee to the thoroughly sanded and primed vanity cabinets.  This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 12 – The light and plumbing fixtures were installed. Pfister Pfister Pasadena shower fixtures were installed in the shower, the sinks received Pfister Pasadena widespread faucets with a brushed nickel finish and the new Kohler Highline toilet was installed.

Days 13, 14 & 15 – A new window was installed above the shower, the exterior stucco was repaired and painted. The transformation hit the homestretch with the installation of the freshly painted cabinet doors and drawers. The mirrors, accessories and new frameless shower door were installed and the bathroom was cleaned of all construction debris and dust.
