The Homeowner’s Experience With This Bathroom Renovation in Modesto

What was your favorite part of the bathCRATE process?

Over the past 12 years, I’ve completed 53 home improvement projects (Yes, I track each one; time & cost, as well as the specific who/what details. After 30 years of project management it’s just how I work.) Working with bathCRATE was a delight. Running a home improvement project like a system development project is just so…. right.

What was your favorite part about the bathCRATE team?

You’ve assembled a skilled team where each takes pride in their part of the project. I also was impressed that each team member was respectful, courteous and worked hard to minimize the mess.

Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?

The scope definition, up-front planning, material selection & procurement, Gantt chart, scheduling so tight it seemed choreographed, even the final end-of-project review session. On time and in budget. Well done!

Bathroom Renovation Timeline

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the bathroom with building paper, and then went to town removing the countertops, backsplash, vanity doors and drawers, shower tile and flooring.  Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Days 2 & 3 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new vanity and LED recessed lighting. Four six inch LED can lights were placed strategically around the bathroom to optimize the lighting and four new vanity lights were installed. The new shower valve was also installed.

Day 4 –  The bathCRATE team was back on site to patch and repair the sheetrock.

Day 5 – All of the walls and ceiling in the bathroom were painted. Kelly-Moore City Dweller with a satin finish was applied to the walls and Kelly-Moore Swiss Coffee paint was applied to the ceiling.

Days 6 & 7 –  The tile artisans were on site to install tile at the shower. Bedrosians Purestone Grigio 12″ x 24″ porcelain tiles were installed on the shower walls and Bedrosians Hemisphere Fatima Cream sliced pebble tiles were installed on the shower floor. The shower was grouted using Laticrete Light Pewter grout.

Days 8 & 9 – The tile artisans were back on site to install the Bedrosians Metro Plus Manhattan Mist 12″ x 24″ floor tiles. The flooring was grouted using Laticrete Natural Grey grout.  The new vanity and sinks were installed along with the beautiful Pental Quartz Super White quartz countertop with a mitered edge.

Day 10 – The painters began preparing and priming the cabinets.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the bathroom vanity cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish. The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Shadow Cliff to the thoroughly sanded and primed vanity cabinets.  This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 11 – The transformation hit the homestretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers, the plumbing fixtures, mirrors, light fixtures and accessories.  The final day of the project also included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the toilet was re-set and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
