Last week we shared a kitchen renovation in North Modesto for a home that was soon to be placed on the market.  The bathCRATE team was fortunate enough to work on the very same home just a few weeks later, and here are the results!

The Homeowner’s Experience

The homeowner was kind enough to write us a testimonial for both the kitchen and the bathroom projects.  You can read it over on the kitchenCRATE blog by clicking here!

Day by Day Progress

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-requested add-ons.)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the bathroom with building paper, and then went to town removing the countertops, backsplash, shower tile, and flooring. Toward the end of the day we set the shower pan and created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Day 2 – The wallpaper was removed from the bathroom, getting the walls ready for new texture and paint.

Day 3 – The bathCRATE team repaired the drywall and subflooring, including some latent water damage near the shower.

Days 4 & 5 – The team at AAI Granite & Tile arrived to install the Bedrosians Metro Plus City Slicker 12 x 12 tiles in the shower with an accent strip of Bedrosians Eclipse Espresso linear glass mosaic tiles.  This was grouted with Laticrete Mushroom grout.

Day 6 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the bathroom and adjacent laundry room.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.

Day 7 – The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Ostrich to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets in both the bathroom and the laundry room.  This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 8 – AAI was back on site to install the new Kohler Caxton undermount sink in white and the MSI Colonial Gold granite countertop with a bullnose edge and backsplash. The bathCRATE team also installed the new Liberty Sophisticate Tapered Bow pulls with matching hinges.

Day 9 – The plumbing fixtures were installed.  The shower received a beautiful new Pfister Avalon tub and shower fixture with a brushed nickel finish while the sink received a new Pfister Santiago single control, centerset faucet with a brushed nickel finish.

Day 10 – The walls and ceiling in both the bathroom and laundry room were painted using Kelly-Moore Dura-Poxy Moondance paint with an eggshell finish.

Day 11 – A new shower door with brushed nickel trim was installed. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the toilet was set, the lights, fan, and mirror were installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
