So what do you do when you’re moving to a new city but only have a few weeks to remodel your kitchen (and other rooms) before the big move? Well, according to this new Livermore, CA family, you call kitchenCRATE.
Yes, our first kitchen transformation along the 580 corridor yielded an amazing project, and we’re so excited this family was able to experience their newly renovated kitchen just in time for the move.
Like many kitchenCRATE customers, the homeowner decided to add quite a few additional items to their project, realizing the time and cost efficiency of having it all completed at once. So, in addition to the kitchen, work occurred at two additional restrooms, the master suite, the laundry room, and the entry.

The Homeowner’s Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
As we hadn’t yet moved into our new house, my favorite part was being able to know our house was in trusted hands during the work and then we got to just show up and see the amazing transformation.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
The entire kitchenCRATE team was fantastic. They were extremely responsive to our many questions throughout the process and made sure every detail looked beautiful.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
What surprised me most was just the total transformation of the look and feel of my house. My house feels fresh and updated and the kitchen is such a bright and beautiful space now. It feels like home!
Day by Day Home Remodeling Progress
(Note: We added (many) extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the extensive owner-request add-ons, like these…)
Here’s how we did it:
Days 1 & 2 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors, and drawers. To support the cantilever countertop, we reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new granite countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Days 3 & 4 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new can lighting, while the lower cabinets were modified to accept a new wine refrigerator and a section of the upper cabinets were transformed into wine bottle storage. Lastly, we roughed-in the wiring and switches for the LED undercabinet lighting.
Day 5 & 6– Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen, guest bathroom, laundry room, hall bathroom and master bathroom cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 7, 8, & 9 – The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Apollo Landing to the thoroughly sanded and primed kitchen cabinets. Kelly-Moore Railroad Ties was applied to the cabinets in the guest bathroom, the hall bathroom and the master bathroom. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 10 – The capable team at AAI Granite & Tile arrived to install the beautiful double-bowl Kohler Clarity under-mount sink in White and the Arizona Tile New Caledonia granite countertops with a mitered edge.
Day 11 – AAI Granite & Tile was back on-site, this time to install the Bedrosians Hamptons Pelican 3 x 6 glass tiles. This will be grouted using Laticrete Sterling Silver grout.
Day 12 – New plumbing fixtures were installed throughout the home. In the kitchen, a new Kohler Simplice pull-down faucet with a vibrant stainless finish was installed, while the laundry room sink received a new Kohler Elate pull-down faucet also with a vibrant stainless finish. Two new Price Pfister Avalon widespread faucets in brushed nickel finish were installed in the upstairs hall bathroom.
Day 13 – The electricians finished replacing all can lights in the home with high-efficiency LED can lights and finished up the installation of the LED undercabinet lighting. While the electricians were hard at work, the kitchenCRATE team installed the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers.
Day 14 – Pura Vida Coronado Eucalyptus Handscraped hardwood flooring was installed to extend the beautiful wood flooring into the kitchen and dinette. Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the paint was touched-up where needed, and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
