No matter how many kitchenCRATE projects we do, there’s always an element of anxiety. We want every job to turn out perfectly.
And when we found out the Callaham Way customer used to be a professional cabinet refinisher? Well, the butterflies kicked in a bit more. After all, he’d certainly know a job-well-done when he saw it!
Thankfully he and his wife were impressed, and as you can see from the images below, their impeccable design taste leads to an amazing transformation in just a few weeks.
But don’t just take our word for it. Scroll down for the customer testimonial, project specifications and extensive before and after pictures!
The Homeowner’s kitchenCRATE Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
The timeline was perfect. We had very few days without the use of our kitchen. My husband was on a 5-day business trip and when he returned our kitchen was almost done! The best experience of the kitchenCRATE process was working with skilled, talented people that were committed to my project.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
The kitchenCRATE team is skilled, professional and committed to customer happiness! They were on site on time and often completed their work ahead of schedule. I loved meeting with a designer to review colors and materials to design my perfect kitchen. They did a great job cleaning up every day which lessened my stress as a working wife and mom.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
I was surprised at how quickly I received answers and corrections to any of my concerns. There were “little things” done that I did not expect to be done. I was more than satisfied with my renovated kitchen and feel like the kitchenCRATE team are my friends who I am already highly recommending to everyone I know.

Day by Day Progress
(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures and cabinet doors and drawers. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new granite countertops. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new granite countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 – A new custom cabinet was installed underneath the bar area creating some additional storage space.
Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Modesto home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Cave Painting were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the new doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 5 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Blanco Precis Super Single bowl sink in Metallic Gray and the Bedrosians River White granite countertops with a beveled edge.
Day 6 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Manhattan Glass 2″ x 8″ tiles, set in a vertical pattern, on the backsplash. The tile backsplash was grouted with Laticrete grout.
Day 7 – The painting team was back on site to paint the walls and ceiling. Kelly-Moore Urban Bird was applied to the main walls and Queen of Hearts was applied to the dining area wall.
Day 8 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Evoke faucet and Contemporary Design soap dispenser, each with a vibrant stainless finish, were installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
