The Homeowner’s kitchenCRATE Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
Really, from front to back this process was smooth, seamless, and truly enjoyable. Each step was timely, professional, and even unexpectedly fun! If we have to choose, we would say that the design process was our favorite part. Lindsay took our scattered vision and turned it into something concrete, which was exactly what we were hoping for!
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
Again, it is so hard to choose when each team member we encountered (from sales to design to project management and even the gentlemen who performed the actual work in our home) was professional, positive, and held to the highest of standards. It is obvious that the various parts of your team take a lot of pride in their work. Willy was open and honest with us during the sales/estimating process, Lindsay provided fantastic design assistance, and Jared and Aaron managed the project flawlessly.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
We knew our project was on the larger side because of the added laundry room and just the amount of cabinets. We did not anticipate the work being done so quickly, and for our schedule to actually tighten up because of the efficiency of the work. Quality was not compromised for schedule – both were at a level 10, which was a wonderful surprise! Even when minor hiccups came up (which are anticipated), they were remedied quickly without impact on the schedule or budget. We will happily recommend kitchenCRATE to our friends and family, and will definitely consider you guys in the future for possible bathroom projects!

Day by Day Progress Breakdown
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors and drawers. We also reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz counters. Toward the end of the day, we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new undercabinet LED lighting while the sheetrock was repaired and prepped for the new tile backsplash.
Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets in the kitchen and laundry room. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen and laundry cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 4 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen and laundry room cabinets in this Modesto home. Two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Hush Gray were applied to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 5 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Blanco Precis Silgranit single bowl sink in metallic gray in the kitchen and a new Kohler Park Falls sink in the laundry room along with the MSI Iced White quartz countertops and the Arizona Tile Grigio Nube quartz countertop at the island, each with a mitered edge.
Day 6 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Bedrosians Grace Grigio 4″ x 12″ ceramic tiles on the backsplash in the kitchen and laundry room. This was grouted using Laticrete Light Pewter grout.
Day 7 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Simplice faucet and Contemporary soap dispenser, each with a vibrant stainless finish, were installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
