After kC Musick 03

We’re quite proud of our most recent kitchenCRATE completion, located on Musick Avenue in Modesto.

Quite frankly our team wasn’t quite sure the kitchen was, well, “refinishable.”  The original 1979 cabinets had seen better days and after 35 years of service, looked as though they may need to be replaced.

But after further investigation, all it took was the replacement of the doors and drawer faces and some new drawer boxes and these cabinets were ready for another few decades of use!

To these improvements, we added stunning quartz countertops, high-gloss backsplash tile, and new flooring, along with an assortment of other amenities.  Please scroll down to hear what the customer thought and see some amazing before and after images!

The Homeowner’s Experience

It all started one day on Facebook.  I love looking at HGTV, so when I noticed before and after pictures of kitchens it peaked my interest.  If you’re wanting your kitchen updated I would tell you to make the call. I’m so happy I did my Dads 1970’s kitchen. It is beautiful! Everyone who participated in the redo I trusted fully. They all had a specialty and did it well. I discussed in great lengths at our four meetings, prior to starting, what I wanted done and they delivered everything in two weeks! The team at kitchen crate was very professional.  Demo day was done in one day and the process after that was quick. I received a timeline sheet that let me know what was being done in detail daily, which was awesome. When they left at the end of the day they always cleaned up after themselves. What more could a woman want?  I was left with a happy feeling everyday watching the end product look so good. I’m so happy and thankful for my kitchenCRATE redo!! Just look at the before & afters…it all started after I made that call.  So what are you waiting for?

Day by Day Progress

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these…)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors, and drawers.   To support the cantilever countertop, we reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps.  Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Day 2 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new can lighting. Six 6″ can lights were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over work spaces.

Day 3 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets.  Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed.  This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.

Days 4 & 5 – The painters then applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy Swiss Coffee paint to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets.  This same priming and painting process was used on the doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 6 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Kohler Vault under-mount, stainless steel sink and the MSI Cascade White quartz countertops with a mitered edge.

Day 7 – The tile backsplash artisans began installing the Daltile Desert Gray 3 X 6 tiles with an accent strip of Emser Lucente Andrea Stone Blend tiles on the backsplash. Laticrete Smokey Gray grout was the applied to the backsplash tiles.

Day 8 – The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the new freshly-painted doors and drawer faces, all outlets and switches were replaced, and the Kohler Simplice faucet and Soap Dispenserwere installed.

Days 9 & 10 – The flooring in the kitchen, dinette, and the living room were replaced with QuickStep Sorrel Hickory engineered wood flooring.  Finally, the kitchenCRATE team installed new baseboard and appliances, and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
