Day by Day Progress

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these.)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, out-dated lightbox, cabinet doors and drawers. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz countertops. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Day 2 – The electrical team began the wiring for the new LED recessed lighting.  Six six-inch LED can lights were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over work spaces. These lights are installed to maximize light levels for the most common countertop uses.

Day 3 – A new gas line was brought in and the cabinets were modified to accomodate the new gas cooktop.

Days 4 & 5 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, the painters began the process of striping the cabinet boxes to prepare them for the new stain. Once the cabinets boxes were stripped of their original finish, the cabinet boxes were stained with a beautiful Old Masters stain.  This process entails a spray application of the stain, followed by a clear coating for the utmost durability. This same process was used on the doors and drawers, which are stained off-site in a climate-controlled booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 6 – The painting team was on site to complete the refinishing process on the cabinet boxes and to apply Kelly-Moore Moss Island paint to the kitchen walls.

Day 7 – The kitchenCRATE team was on site again to install the beautiful Blanco Valea Silgranit super single bowl sink in White. Once the sink was installed, the countertop installation team arrived to install the Life Quartz Pebble Stone quartz countertops with a bullnose edge.

Day 8 – The tile backsplash artisans were on site to install the Daltile Almond 4″ x 4″ semi-gloss tiles, set in a diagonal pattern, with accent pieces of Bedrosians Emperador Dark mosaic tiles on the backsplash. This was grouted using Laticrete Almond grout.

Days 9 & 10 –  Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s new stainless steel appliances.  The transformation hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-stained cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Simplice faucet  and Contemporary soap dispenser, each with a vibrant stailness finish, were installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
