After kC Naturewood 01

The kitchenCRATE team is excited to present yet another stunning kitchen remodel!  Oakdale, CA is home to this transformation featuring a relatively unique design twist: re-stained cabinets.

The majority of kitchenCRATE projects these days undergo painting of the cabinets.  On occasion, though, we work with the customer to come up with a design package that uses the rich, warm look of stained natural wood cabinets.  This fresh look goes exceptionally well with the new quartz countertops and subway tile backsplash.

But don’t just take our word for it.  Scroll down for the project specifications and extensive before and after pictures of this beautiful kitchen remodel in Oakdale!

kC Naturewood Complete

Day by Day Timeline

(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons and to complete work in two additional bathrooms.)

Here’s how we did it:

Day 1 – Demo Day!  On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors and drawers, and the flooring. We also removed the outdated light box in order to make room for the new LED can lighting. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz countertops. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.

Day 2 – The electrical team also began the wiring for the new LED recessed lighting and undercabinet LED lights.  Five six inch LED can lights were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over work spaces. These lights are installed to maximize light levels for the most common countertop uses. Next, we used metal-stud framing to sheetrock the old lightbox and then hung and taped the sheetrock.

Days 3 – 6 – The painters began the process of striping the cabinet boxes to prepare them for the new Old Masters American Walnut stain. Once the cabinets boxes were stripped of their original finish, the cabinet boxes were stained with a beautiful American Walnut stain.  This process entails a spray application of the stain, followed by a clear coating for the utmost durability. This same process was used on the doors and drawers, which are stained off-site in a climate-controlled booth for the highest possible quality.

Day 7 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Blanco Performa Equal Double Bowl sink in Truffle and the MSI Toasted Almond quartz countertops with a bullnose edge.

Day 8 – The tile backsplash artisans installed the Daltile Urban Putty 3″ x 6″ semi-gloss tiles with an accent strip of Emser Lucente Lido glass and stone blend tiles on the backsplash. The tile backsplash was grouted with Laticrete Mushroom grout.

Day 9 – The painting team was on site to paint the walls and ceiling.

Day 10 –  Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s appliances.  The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Simplice faucet with a vibrant stainless finish was installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
