The Homeowner’s Kitchen Remodel Reno Experience
What was your favorite part of the kitchenCRATE process?
From the day I heard the idea of a new kitchen in 7 days I was hooked. I had wanted to redo my kitchen for some time but could not face the idea of weeks, if not months, of mess. I was skeptical and asked my daughter, who is a wiz at digging out information on the internet, to check and see if this was a real reliable company. She could find nothing to the contrary so when I saw that they were in Reno I called.
KitchenCRATE did exactly what they promised. The entire process was easy. They were entirely professional and honest about everything so we knew what we were getting into. When we were planning the project they were open and up-front about what would cost more and add time to the project so that we could make those decisions easily. They even provided a designer to help with some of the project decisions. We were provided with a packet with all information about our project including exactly what they were going to do and a timeline of when they would be doing each part of the project.
What was your favorite part about the kitchenCRATE team?
I could not believe how fast and efficient the kitchenCRATE team was and just as advertised the job was finished exactly on time. Jason answered all of our questions and was on sight each day to check in with us and with the crew. He was also available by phone for any questions that come up when he was not onsite. Every evening we checked the progress and could not believe how quickly it went and also how clean they left the area each evening. I could and did walk around barefoot which is normal for me. It was obvious from the start that we had a truly experienced and professional crew working in our home.
Was there anything about the process or project that surprised you? If so, what was it?
Another big surprise was that they required no deposit up front and did not present a bill to me until after all was done and I was happy with it. And the bill was less than estimated! We did have a minor glitch when we failed to notice that the oven that was delivered (by others) and installed was not the one I had ordered. They did not leave us high and dry. This was not a problem of their making, but they made it right. When I finally got the correct oven, they came back and installed it, making my kitchen absolutely perfect.
KitchenCRATE does what they say they are going to do in the time frame they give you…Unbelievable! KitchenCRATE is a company you can trust!

Day by Day Progress
(Note: We added a few extra days to our normal 7-day process to accommodate the owner-request add-ons, like these…)
Here’s how we did it:
Day 1 – Demo Day! On this first day, we set up plastic walls to protect the home from dust, protected the path from the entry door to the kitchen with building paper, and then went to town removing the appliances, countertop, backsplash, plumbing fixtures, cabinet doors, and drawers. We reinforced the plywood sub-tops with steel straps to support the new quartz countertops. Toward the end of the day we created the template for the new quartz countertops, which take a few days to fabricate off-site.
Day 2 –The electrical team began the wiring for the new can lighting and undercabinet LED lighting. Eight six inch can lights were placed strategically around the kitchen to optimize the lighting over work spaces.
Day 3 – Next, we used metal-stud framing to sheetrock the old lightbox and then hung and taped the sheetrock. At the same time, the cabinets were modified to accept the new Kohler Whitehaven apron front sink.
Day 4 – Since all the walls and the ceilings had been protected, our painters began preparing and priming the cabinets. Using a high-grade, oil-based primer, every inch of the kitchen cabinets were caulked, sanded and primed. This is the first (and perhaps most critical) step of creating a durable paint finish.
Day 5 – The painters then began refinishing the kitchen cabinets in this Reno home and applied two coats of Kelly-Moore Dura-poxy paint in Picket Fence to the thoroughly sanded and primed cabinets. This same priming and painting process was used on the new doors and drawers, which are painted off-site in a climate-controlled paint booth for the highest possible quality.
Day 6 – The countertop installation team arrived to install the beautiful Kohler Whitehaven apron front sink in White and the MSI Chakra Beige quartz countertops with a bullnose edge.
Day 7 – The tile backsplash artisans installed the Daltile Elemental Tan 3″ x 6″ gloss tiles. The tile backsplash was grouted with Laticrete Desert Khaki grout.
Day 8 – The painting team was back on site to paint the walls and ceilings. Kelly-Moore Lover’s Hideaway was applied to the walls.
Day 9 – Lastly, the kitchenCRATE team installed the homeowner’s new appliances. The transformation then hit the home stretch with the installation of the freshly-painted cabinet doors and drawers. The final day of the project included an array of “touch-up” items: all outlets and switches were replaced, the Kohler Simplice faucet and Kohler Transitional soap dispenser each with a vibrant stainless finish were installed and the entire project was cleaned, top-to-bottom.
